ALI SANDIFER STUDIO Credenza

Edith Credenza

Edith Credenza Side

My wife and I just bought a house in late April and have been working like dogs to make it a well designed modern style abode. One piece of furniture I’ve discovered a love for is the credenza. We looked at ebay and Craig’s list and ended up scoring at Goodwill. That hasn’t stopped me looking at them though. Here’s a great credenza from Chicago based Ali Sandifer Studio. Everything they make is so amazing it hurts.

Tempest

Death Dealer

Sorry the gallery hasn’t been working correctly. I haven’t had time to go in a fix it. In the mean time check out the work of Simon Kim. Simon was born in Korea, grew up in Seoul and moved to Toronto, Canada. He is a graduate of Sheridan’s Bachelor of Applied Arts (Illustration) program. Simon uses mixed media and digital manipulation to create conceptual, dark and mysterious illustrations.

Stimulus Respond

I Just came across London based Valero Doval’s work and it is amazing. Doval’s art combines collage and drawings (some pieces seem to just be drawings) with shapes and geometric pattern elements. Color in most pieces is used in a subtle way and space is used make each piece of art feel precious  and important (but not pretentious). Doval cleverly pairs images in a fun way as well. Some clients include The New York Times, Panasonic and Timberland. Check out the site to see more examples of  both personal and commercial work.

VALERO DOVAL is a London based illustrator who studied in Spain.

Art All State 2009

This was my second year participating in Art All State at the Worcester Art Museum. My partner, sculptor Susan Halls, and myself facilitated a studio of 20 high school juniors from all over Massachusetts. The students had two pieces of art from the museums collection to draw inspiration from (Outer Robe for an Akahime “Red Princess” Kabuki Theater Performance and a triptick featuring Apollo and Daphne) and as they created a collaborative installation out of old socks, shredded paper and Masonite samples. Our students did such an amazing job that their installation was chosen to be displayed in Dick Blick’s Art Store in Boston. Congratulations and thank you to all of the students and Susan for a great weekend.

Gary

Gary is an amazing French animation I just saw directed by Clément Soulmagnon, Yann Benedi, Sébastien Eballard & Quentin Chaillet. I really can’t find anything I don’t like about it. It’s colorful, insightful and polished. My favorite part is the beginning when we follow the hose into the story. You can watch it in HD here.

Still here just really really busy

Hi everyone, we’re still here. Zach has had a lot of work and my wife and I just bought our first house. We’ll have new patterns and posts soon. If you want to help us out and have some good stuff for us to post about please let us know.

Galbraith & Paul

Galbraith and Paul

Liz Galbraith and Ephraim Paul founded their studio in 1986. They originally began working  as a hand paper making studio specializing in lamps with hand made paper shades but soon evolved into a fabric design and printing studio concentrating on lighting with hand block printed shades and fabrics of silk, linen, and velvet. Adding to the mix they now produce hand-tufted rugs. They make everything to order. Looking at their work it is easy see that their love for making patterns shines through. This week’s Flickr Friday features the photos and crochet sculptures of Irina Antonyuk, a.k.a. irenestrange. The crochet bird…er…containers caught my attention, and the remaining super-cute critters held it. The pool is rounded out by some cool photos (of which there seems to be no end when it comes to Japan…). Irene is apparently a packaging designer by trade, and makes these great creatures as hobby. You can find her Etsy store here.
