Dunford Wood - Handmade Wallpaper

Dunford Wood - Handmade Wallpaper

Dunford Wood is an amazing bunch that makes all their wallpapers by hand black printing. The irregularities of hand block printing add a human touch of imperfection that makes their work very intriguing. Maybe what is so great is that they use a process most people can use at home if they had the resolve to stick with it. It’s not easy printing a 24′ x 12′ area with a 6″x 12″ block. Check out their site to learn more about their production process.

Hoefler & Frere-Jones

Hoefler & Frere-Jones

If you’re looking for a great site for and about fonts check out Hoefler & Frere-Jones. The site has a simple nice design and a lot of type to look at. Looking at fonts when they are presented well is a lot of fun. I think this calls for a pattern based on type! I’m sure we can muster something up.

Comment Contest Winner!

Congratulations to to Abbey from Aesthetic Outburst, our first comment contest winner!! Abbey wanted a chalk board theme. So cool.  Here’s a prelim.

To all those who commented on our site and didn’t win thank you and don’t you worry. We’ll be drawing a new winner as soon as this round is finished. So keep the comments coming. A good place to start is this vary post.

Illustration Sites #3

Drawn Illustration logo

Drawn! is a multi-author blog devoted to illustration, art, cartooning and drawing. Its purpose is to inspire creativity by sharing links and resources. Drawn differs from the two previously featured illustration sites, Illustration Mundo and The Little Chimp Society, in that illustrations are not submitted and controlled by the user(illustrator) but instead found by the Drawn! team. This seems to make the site a little less interesting probably because it has less content. Drawn does have a lot of great work though; like this post about Japanese toy designs. I do recommend checking it out and commenting on the posts you like.

Illustration Sites #2

lcsv4

One of my favorite sites for seeing illustrators is LCS (Little Chimp Society). There are always great illustrations when I go there and a lot illustration news from openings to prints for sale from some the of industry’s best.

Illustration Sites #1: Illustration Mundo

New Pattern!

Samurai Clouds

It’s finished and posted in the gallery. Check it out!

Illustration Sites #1

Illustration Mundo

This is the first post in a series about illustration websites. Nate Williams’s Illustration Mundo is a great site to see some of today’s best illustrators. The site features interviews, a blog, a forum, news, polls, an events calendar and a place for illustrators to submit their work. Got to the about page and hear Nate tell about the site and how to get the most out of it.

If you know of any illustration sites you’d like included in this series, please let us know in the comments.

In the Works: Samurai Clouds

Samurai Clouds

Bit of a sneak peek at another in a series of Japanese woodblock print and samurai-inspired patterns. Really long informative page on the history and process of Japanese woodblock printing here. Another shorter option here.

The Desktop Wallpaper Project

Kitsube Noir

Bobby S.’s Design Blog, Kitsune Noir, has started a Desktop Wallpaper Project where features some great wallpapers by some amazing artists. Check out the links.

New Pattern: Wood Block Print

Wood Block Pattern

We’ve got a new pattern up in the gallery. Check out these great blocks of wood in all shapes and sizes (if you consider a rectangle to be “all shapes,” that is…). Stick this up on your desktop and revel in memories of woodshop in Middle School—ahhh, can’t you just smell the sawdust…?
