barilla pasta de bassan package design

I encountered a box of pasta (the Bigoli de Bassan) in the food section of a local Marshalls (yeah, it’s kind of lame that I shop at Marshalls, I know…) a few weeks back and was so taken with the design that I purchased it on this basis alone. I was pleased, upon opening, cooking and consuming, to find that the product inside the packaging was equally enjoyable. I subsequently found and purchased another box, though of a different kind of pasta (e Penne de Aplin de Bassan); I have yet to open or eat this pasta. The package design is the real purpose of this post. It is exciting, colorful, and bold, and very unlike the drab or otherwise “rustic” appearances of pastas I’ve found here in the US. I especially enjoy the logo font with its goofy drop shadow and the photographic image of the actual pasta in the case of the Bigoli de Bassan. The Peter Pan-esque hat is a nice touch as well.

Should it be of interest to anyone, the pasta is, as mentioned, very good, with a darker color and heartier body than one typically finds in a dried spaghetti and a nice freshness of flavor. I’ve no clue where this pasta can be found other than where I myself have found it, and if anybody has seen it around, it’d be nice to know. Here is some info I found on the Borella brand Bigoli (etc.) de Bassan.
