The Girl Who Sat By The Ashes” is a Irish story written by Padraic Colum and illustrated by Dugald Stewart Walker in the 1920′s. The story is the telling of adventures by which Girl-go-with-the-Goats (poor farmers daughter) who in the end,  wins the heart and the hand of the King’s son. Walkers prints are amazingly detailed, overlapping 2-d forms that create patterns and feedback.  Microscopic cross hatching render these complex and sometimes very minimal plates. One of my old friends from art school would say “I really dig the line work, man.”  [Some images provided by the wonderful Golden Age]
