Lu Cong is a young, talented American portrait artist who was born in Shanghai China in 1978. Making him around the same age as me. To avoid attending medical school Cong moved from Mississippi, where his family settled to Denver. Cong’s models are all almost women and all have a similar look about them. In each portrait the eyes of the subject gaze directly at the viewer and are painted slightly warmer than the rest of the image to intensify them. I especially like his paintings that put his subject in a place. The backdrops are often more detailed than the figure making is stand out even more. It’s hard not to be extremely impressed.
