This week’s Flickr Friday features the photos and crochet sculptures of Irina Antonyuk, a.k.a. irenestrange. The crochet bird…er…containers caught my attention, and the remaining super-cute critters held it. The pool is rounded out by some cool photos (of which there seems to be no end when it comes to Japan…). Irene is apparently a packaging designer by trade, and makes these great creatures as hobby. You can find her Etsy store here.

New Pattern in Progress

Been working on a new pattern.  Here’s a preview.  Not sure of what to call it; any suggestions?

Farmidable Flickr Friday: ' ∞

Farmidable Flickr Friday: ' ∞

Flickr Friday once again finds itself sliding in just in time to stay true to its name!  This week’s featured Flickr photostream is that of the cryptically named ‘ ∞ .  Not sure of the pronunciation, nor am I sure of much else other than that I love these photos.  The artists creates a horrible discheveled universe in which human bodies inhabit harsh flash-lit spaces much the same as the piles of trash around them.  That is to say, there is something effortless and perfect in these photos.  Dark shadows, pale skin, errant body parts, illogical depths of field , and seemingly thoughtless compositions all unite in a coup against the viewer’s brain leaving the odd impression of something that is beautiful in a way that could never have been expected.

Animal Collective: “My Girls” [Video]

Animal Collective My Girls Official Video

I just got around to downloading the new Animal Collective album, Merriweather Post Pavillion, today, and I’m still listening to it.  I heard “My Girls” a week before the album was released and loved it immediately.  I was psyched to see on Pitchfork  that a video for the track [which has since been removed] was released today and I watched it right away.  I mostly like it, but am a little put off by the unavoidable resemblance to iPod ads.  One way to look at it is that the whole thing comes off as some joint marketing campaign between Apple, Doritos, and Cheese-Its.  Another way to look at it is that the animation is [mostly] nicely handled and that the rotoscoped layering and kinetic visuals, though reminiscent of iTunes Visualizer, are a good visual representation of a densely-layered and atmospheric song.  All said, I couldn’t watch this if it wasn’t for the creepy edge the bright pink animated lips imbue upon the everything.  Sorry I couldn’t actually embed the video, but you can see it right here.

Just squeezing this Flickr Friday in on schedule (west coast time at least).  This Friday’s post features Will Govus’s Flickr, and a bunch of really beautiful photos therein.  I was turned on to Will’s work by Kitsune Noir, and really enjoyed looking through his Flickr photos, as well as his portfolio.
