Today’s Flickr Friday features the work of artist/designer Dan Mountford. Dan is a Graphic Design student at Brighton University. I first saw his work on Grain Edit and was really happy that he had a Flickr account so I could post about it. As I understand Dan does not use photoshop for his double exposure images, he does it in camera. I’m not so sure about the dots and lines though. How would like to hang one these images in your house? Well you can! Not sure about shipping though. I just sent him an email. Maybe he’ll answer.

E-chan’s photostream is both professional and extensive. I’ve taken peeks at his work over the years often but am just getting to posting about it. His recent work is by far my favorite. I really enjoy the graininess of some of his softly colored shots as well as the movement and emotion they capture. Especially the image with the rabbit. I’m not sure if it’s a photo of dolls or a photo of a painting but it has a curious unsettling narrative.  See more on Flickr.

Taking queue from a suggestion in Smashing Magazine, Portuguese designer/photographer, Renato Pequito, decided he was tired of feeling like he didn’t design enough and would make one design per day. Looking through them all you can really see how the designs play off each other, some designs leading into another while others stand alone or are personalized for a friend. Over all there is an amazing and fun sequence to the body of work, full of geometric faces and shapes, that makes you keep clicking through to see what’s next. Maybe as designers this is something we all should do? I’d love to find out how Renato made time for it and how long designs took him. Happy Friday everyone! Looks like it’ll be seasonally warm here in the North East US today. This Flickr Friday I’m bringing Plastolux’s photostream to the table. I was looking for something architecture related and Plastolux fit the bill. I ended up spending some time in the Texture/Pattern Set which contains the images above. Among other sets are also ones for Lighting, Seating and Kitchen. If you’re a modern design buff you’ll like it all. Plastolux is Tyler Goodro, an interdisciplinary designer with a love of DIY modern design. Aside from having a great photosteam he also has a blog featuring things like restorations and Ikea hacks and design portfolio.

Friday already! This week’s Flickr Friday features the work of designer Network Osaka. I pulled this quote off of the Network Osaka about page.

“As a designer, I strive to engineer form and function in complete harmony. Removing unnecessary design elements and having a concise and direct approach to design problems will ultimately create a successful product valued for both its content and its design.”

Looking at the range of work the above quote really reigns true and is something I strive for in my work. I love the runners poster too. The dude in the beard really pops out when I blur my eyes.

(I’m posting this a day late.) This weeks Flickr Friday brings you the work of fashion designer turned photographer Kirsty Mitchell and her Wonderland series. Kirsty’s work is incredible. I didn’t choose her most colorful photos for Farmidable but over all her work is very colorful. Having been a fashion designer her costumes are amazing. Her photos show incredible imagination, color, and an attention to theme and detail that is not often seen even in staged photos. You can visit her photo stream here and check out her website here.

I don’t know a lot about what different parts of type face are called. There’s the foot and the stem, but after that it all gets a bit foggy. I can’t promise that after looking at Grant Hutchinson’s Flickr stream I’ll commit much more to memory but I will remember the great photos he uses in his Type Anatomy Lesson. I could see myself blowing one up and hanging it in my house. Hope you enjoy.

This week’s Flickr Friday features the photo stream of illustrator/art director Lydia Lys from Paris, France. Lydia does work for books, newspapers, magazines and more. All of her work is well designed, even the illustrations where she uses a combination of college and drawing.
