Aside from having a great website design, ReachLife Ministries has an interesting talk by Shai Linne on Christianity and the Arts. Even if you’re not yet of the Christian persuasion, or into hip hop I think you’ll gain some artistic insight out of it.  Check out the site and the talk here.

Techno Tuesdays at work often has a lot of Justice thrown in. My co-worker Justin sent me a link to the new Justice video for the song Civilization directed by Edouard Salier. It’s an amazing video that takes place in what at first resembles a Planet of Apes type setting with gigantic roman like sculptures and desert canons. Just when you think you’re figuring it out the whole world starts to tilt and Buffalo start appearing and running all over. The video is a stylized masterpiece that makes a pretty good song when it first starts into a really good song.

So, I totally missed that Adele has a new album. You’ve probably heard it and have even seen this video for Rolling In The Deep. (Like I said, I’ve been busy nesting,  I’m a little behind on all things that don’t have to do with babies.)  Don’t worry. No babies in this video. No pink poufy dresses or lovey-dovey eyes at the camera either. That wouldn’t be Adele, and its certainly not me.

Migit Digits is the late night/weekend project of artist film makers Tim O’Donnell and Justin Friend. I have to say, I’m a huge fan. I celebrate their entire collection. The music video Argyles to Ankle Waist is is a preview of Migit Digits’s sophomore album which promises like the their first album twenty songs in twenty minutes. After watching the video you may think anyone with an HD Camera, Apple Garage Band  and video editing software could do the exact same thing. I beg to differ. You would also need the same basement, a lot of argyle socks, a pink  snow suit and a baby organ… and I don’t think you have all those things. Even if you did, would you? Probably not. But they did, and they are making more. My favorit part of this song is when Tim breaks it down to us at about 1:26 in, amiss red purple and blue stars just the way it should be.

I’m a bit under the weather today, but after sleeping through most of it I thought I’d let you know about Animal Collective member Avey Tare’s (a.k.a. David Portner) first solo album inspired by one of his favorite animals, the crocodile. The album. Down There, is said to be an exploration of creating space through electronic sound. Animal Collective has slowly grown more accessible each album, Down There is rooted more in experimentation and includes simple, tribal beats and a lot of reverbed vocals. Each song flows into the next as if the album was more like one song with different parts. It really reminds of Animal Collective’s early albums, but more mature, slowed down and more deliberate. Like most experimental albums it does has it’s flaws, at least in my opinion. I’m not a fan of voice over vocals. I’ve never liked talking durring songs that is not in a hop hop rap kinda way and there is quite a bit of it in the albums opening. To me that always makes things seem a bit forced and for some reason reminds me of Guns and Roses. Overall though I really like it. Maybe after a few more listens the voiceover thing won’t bother me. You can here the whole album on NPR Music until it’s release date on October 20th. I’ve also embedded the album below so you don’t have to leave Farmidable.

This is a great music video. I really like the song and the animation is so stylized polished. The concept behind the video is great too. These organisms that feed off of each other, cause and effect, rockets and some explosions. You’ll get it when you see it.

I know it’s been out for a few weeks now, but I just got around to listing to the new Flying Lotus EP. I’ve pulled the track Camera Day from Warp Records. It’s a great track. The base is fantastic. I even like it when it’s streaming. I’m sure it’s amazing played off a high quality file with a set of decent speakers. I’m one of those guys who will pick an album to try just because of the album art. How could I resist the image above. Hand drawn amazing or “handrawmazing”. Reminds of the Warner Brothers character, Gossemer, who was just hair eyes and sneakers only not as red and a lot cooler.

This is a very simple and very amazing video by Jul & Mat for Ratatat’s Party With Children. I really can’t say much more about it. It has a certain perfection that I exceedingly enjoy; a common trait in Jul & Mat videos.
