Project SF

Recently had the chance to catch up with an old classmate, Dana Woulfe, at RISD, where we both spoke to a class about illustration and design. Dana in involved with Project SF, an international artist collective featuring some great artists and designers. Check it out.

Jean Spezial

A few things about Jean Espezial: One: they’ve got a great looking new site (well, new to me, I haven’t checked in a while…but I think it’s actually legitimately new). The gallery is especially (or is it espezially…) cool, with some great filter-driven animated effects. Two: the new site has a bio section, which nicely explains that Jean Espezial is, in fact, a collective. You see, all along I’ve been under the impression that Jean Espezial was simply one prolific person, and I suppose it’s a bit a relief that it takes 7 people to produce so much great work. And this brings me to Three: there’s a ton of great stuff in the gallery. I’ve posted a few selections above, but take a little time and pick through everything.

ChalkBoard SkateBoard

If you’re ever in the Design District of San Diego check out Igloo. The Chalkboard Skateboard is great, and the shop keeper will tell you all about the Design District, where to get good eats and where to see great art, design and illustration, which is what Farmidable is all about.

Also, we’ll be releasing a new pattern on Monday. Make sure you check back!

Can a New Hat Change Your Life?

Farmidable Contributer: Robert Burch
New Hat

I needed a hat and a pair of kicks. I hadn’t brought either with us on our trip to San Diego and we were headed to the desert for a day of hiking. Marshalls saves the day! I found just what I needed, a hip pair of Pumas and this madras “old style” cap. I figured I looked pretty spiffy in the hat and not only wore it to the desert but all the rest of our trip. (and right now)

Typography Nuances

I love Typography

Here at Farmidable we’re not just about patterns, we love design too. I love Typography is one of the if not the best blogs about type out there. Featuring news, interviews, tests, free fonts, a lot of great design. If you’re an artist, designer, illustrator or you just want to make nice wedding or bar mitzvah invites, this is a place to learn a lot about type and how to use it.

Dan Funderburgh Desktop at Kitsune Noir

Umbrella Rifle

There’s this thing going on over at Kitsune Noir where cool desktop wallpapers by great artists are being given away for free. While this is far from an original concept (ahem…), it’s an initiative we at Farmidable are fully supportive of. Anyway, this desktop designed by Dan Funderburgh was just posted today. Dan has some great work involving repeating patterns and super-cool ornamentation of every-day or bellicose objects like vacuum cleaners and battle axes. Check out the largest versions and get a full-detail glimpse of the umbrella.

Tiles Tiles Tiles

Tiles

Funny that with all the Farmidable tiles we’ve yet to do a post about tiles tiles. Well today things are a changing. We recently had the chance to visit CTM (Classic Tile Mosaic) in Little Italy/The Art Design District of San Diego. CTM has amazing “design based” tiles. So many it was hard to put the camera down. Click more to see some of the other tiles. (more…)

Hoefler & Frere-Jones

Hoefler & Frere-Jones

If you’re looking for a great site for and about fonts check out Hoefler & Frere-Jones. The site has a simple nice design and a lot of type to look at. Looking at fonts when they are presented well is a lot of fun. I think this calls for a pattern based on type! I’m sure we can muster something up.
